Aona no goma-ae

Greens with sesame

(Aona no goma-ae)

DESCRIPTION

Another recipe that is easy to make and delicious. It is eaten in all seasons and is usually served cold as an accompanying dish. It can be cooked with a variety of other greens, such as pak choi, spinach or watercress. This recipe uses green beans. Sesame is an excellent source of Vitamin E.

INGREDIENTS
  • 250 gms green beans
  • 45 gms (3 tablespoons) sesame seeds
  • 15 ml (1 tablespoon) shoyu
  • pinch of caster sugar or 5 ml (1 teaspoon) honey as a sweetener
METHOD
  1. Wash, rinse and drain the greens
  2. Combine the shoyu, sesame seeds (some can be ground if you prefer) and sugar or honey.  Stir until sugar/honey is dissolved
  3. Steam or boil the greens to your preferred crunchiness
  4. Drain thoroughly, and mix with the shoyu/sesame mix immediately prior to serving
